Jesse Obremski, a native New Yorker, has been described by DanceTabs as one who dances “with fluent simplicity” and “quiet understanding”. He started training at The Ailey School and later graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School (2012). In 2016, Jesse graduated from The Juilliard School, under the direction of Lawrence Rhodes, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. Jesse is an Eagle Scout Rank recipient (2010), a Father Fame Awardee (2012), the recipient of the 2016 Jadin Wong Dance Award, administered by the Asian American Arts Alliance, and a "Dancer to Watch" by Interview En L'air (2017). He has also attended Springboard Danse Montreal, Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts (EMIA), and Jacob's Pillow's Contemporary Program. Jesse has been Diversity of Dance's stage manager and lighting designer for multiple events since 2016. He enjoys photography, arts administration, stagecraft, and cooking.
Jesse has had the pleasure to perform with Diversity of Dance Inc., the Kate Weare Company, Ruddur Dance, DaretoCreate Dance Theatre, Zest Collective, and is currently a company member with the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company (since 2015), Buglisi Dance Theatre (since 2016), Smashworks Dance Collective (since 2016), and the Limón Dance Company (since 2016).
Throughout his experiences, Jesse has had the honor of performing works by renowned choreographers such as Kyle Abraham, Alvin Ailey, Robert Battle, MADBOOTS, Brian Brooks, Camille A. Brown, Nacho Duato, Sharon Eyal, Martha Graham (principle role), Rennie Harris, Loni Landon, José Limón (soloist and principle roles), Lar Lubovitch, Earl Mosley, Ohad Naharin, Crystal Pite, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, Paul Taylor (principle role), and Kate Weare among others.
Jesse has performed at various venues including The Joyce Theatre, BAM Fisher, The White House, Kaatsbaan International Center, The Apollo Theater, American Dance Festival, and Chicago Dancing Festival.
Jesse has performed in the following musical productions at LaGuardia High School: A Chorus Line (Dance Captain), Hairspray (Brad, Dance Captain), and Guys and Dolls (Lead Dancer, Dance Captain). He has also been a part of the musical production of Blueprint Specials (Dancer). Jesse has also participated in The Broadway Experience and has vocally trained with Badiene Magaziner and Claudia Dumschat.
Jesse has been a member of the Church of Transfiguration's Men and Boys Choir since 2002, with artistic direction by Claudia Dumschat. Through the choir, he has performed as the "Page" in Amahl and the Night Visitors and alongside the Gateway Orchestra.
In 2015, Jesse was featured in Meredith Rainey Dance's dance film, entitled S.kin, and in 2016, he was featured in Julia Discenza's film, entitled Living-Room (Both created and filmed at Earl Mosley's Institute of the Arts). Also in 2016, he was featured in DaretoCreate Dance Theatre's dance film, entitled Membering You.
Jesse’s work has been presented at the Harlem Arts Festival (2014), The Church of Transfiguration (2015), Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts (2015, 2016), and Broward County Library Theatre (2016), among others. He has been commissioned by Zest Collective, DaretoCreate Dance Collective, and commissioned choreographic collaborations for NOVA: Movement and Sound, with composer Sylvia Jiang, Earl Mosley Institute of the Arts, with videographer Julia Discenza, and at in productions at the Church of Transfiguration. In 2014, he created a site-specific work at Earl Mosley’s Institute of the Arts. Jesse’s choreography has also been honored at The Juilliard School’s Choreographic Honors Concert at The Peter Jay Sharp Theater (2012, 2016).
Jesse is the founder and artistic director of JOIN Ensemble, a contemporary dance ensemble based in New York City.
Since 2013, Jesse has been a guest teacher at LaGuardia High School. In 2014, Jesse has toured across Hawaii with DaretoCreate Dance Theatre to guest teach at The University of Hawaii at Manoa, Mid-Pacific High School, and Queen Emma Ballet. In 2015, he was a faculty member with FRESH Dance Intensive touring across Canada as well as teaching in studios across America. With Earl Mosley's Institute of the Arts, Jesse has been an Emerging Resident Artist (2015) and an arts administrator and faculty member (2016). Since 2016, he has also been on faculty with Bay Ridge Ballet in New York City.
Jesse has assisted in restaging works by artists such as Clifton Brown, Jacqulyn Buglisi, José Limón, Earl Mosley, Maxine Steinman, and Kate Weare.
